ITINERARY
Day 1 Day 1: Nairobi (JKIA )
 

On arrival at the airport you will be met by a Birding Safaris Africa tour leader, and transferred to your hotel. On your first day in Nairobi. We will Visit the National Museums of Kenya gallery were you will be guided by one of the knowledgeable museum guides. You will be introduced to the different tribes of Kenya through the eyes of Joy Adamson in her famous painting of the tribes of Kenya housed in the main gallery.Overnight  Nairobi.


DAY 2 Nairobi
 

After breakfast we shall drive to Ologarseile an active excavation site near Lake Magadi. At this site we shall have an informative guided tour of the excavations and view some of the prehistoric finds. We shall also have our picnic lunch here, while enjoying our meal we hope to see the many avian visitors that are attracted to the water tank near the center, good example are Banded, Parisoma, Laughing Doves, Southern Grosbeak Canary, Red-cheeked Cordon bleus, Cut-throat Finch, Purple Grenadier, Speckle-fronted Weavers, and Superb Starling.Overnight  Nairobi.


Day 3 Nairobi – Mt Kenya
 

After breakfast we drive to Mt Kenya region through the central highlands. We pass through villages and farmland of the Agikuyu community. Our destination is on the slopes of Mt Kenya. Along the way weather permitting, we should have nice views of Mt Kenya’s snow covered peak. The community living around this mountain believed that their creator resided at the mountain top and accordingly revered the mountain. We shall also have a stopover before arriving to our destination to view the beautiful male Long-tailed Widowbirds in there breeding dress. Overnight Mt Kenya.


Day 4 Mt Kenya - Samburu
 

Early this morning we shall have a pre-breakfast game and bird watching session. After breakfast we continue with our journey to Northern Kenya. We shall arrive in Samburu at lunch hour. After lunch we go for an evening game and birdwatching drive. In this park we have some target species to look out for since they are not found so easily in other areas. They include Pringles Puff-back, Pale Prinia, Somali Long-billed Crombec and the endemic Donaldson-Smith Weaver. Uncommon mammals of this park include the Grevy’s Zebra, Giraffe -antelope or Gerenuk, Reticulated Giraffe and the  Oryx. Overnight Samburu.


Day 5 Samburu
 

Today we go further afield to locate more Somali arid region species; we shall be bird finding species like Somali- bee-eater, Pink-breasted Lark and with a lot of luck the William’s Lark. In the afternoon we visit a traditional Samburu village. The Samburu are closely related to the Maasai but they have absorbed a lot of custom and traditions of the Northern Kenya tribes. We shall be entertained by special dances to welcome visitors by the warriors and womenfolk and afterwards an informal lecture on the customs and traditions of the tribe. Later on we can visit there homestead and also observe them making there famous beadworks which can be easily purchased from the community self help group. Overnight  Samburu.


Day 6 Samburu – Lake Nakuru
 

Today after breakfast, we shall proceed to Lake Nakuru which is famed as one of the greatest ornithological spectacles in the world. More than a million Lesser Flamingoes cover 80% of this shallow alkaline lake together with a wide variety of waterbirds. The yellow Acacia and Euphorbia forest that surrounds the lake supports more species of land birds including the Grey-crowned Helmetshrike, a much sought after species by keen birders.Overnight  Nakuru.


Day 7 Lake Nakuru
 

After Breakfast we shall take time off from birding to visit Hyrax hill. This is an archeological site that has been home to settlements as early as 3000 years ago and was first discovered in 1926 by the famous paleontologist Louis Leakey. We shall enjoy a guided tour and  afterwards return to the lodge for lunch and more game and birdwatching in the afternoon. Overnight Nakuru.


Day 8 Lake Nakuru – Nairobi ( JKIA )
 

After breakfast we head to Nairobi and arrive their in time for lunch.  In the afternoon we shall visiting the the Daphne Sheldrick orphanage, a shelter for orphaned rhinos and elephants. Evening you will be transfered to the airport for the flight back home.
